Review For Women

I’ve tried a lot of protein bars over the years.  Since becoming a pescatarian, I have been searching even harder for healthy protein bars to meet my protein needs. However, I have found that high protein often equals high artificial ingredients and an artificial taste. Also, while being high in protein, they tend to be high in total fat and saturated fat.

First, let me explain what I consider a “protein” bar.  For me, 10 grams of protein per bar is the minimum qualification to be classified as a “protein” bar. Unless you start looking at bars that are designed for bodybuilders and those looking for very high protein, 10 grams of protein, or more, is not so easy to find–especially if you are looking at fat and sugar as well.

Let’s take a look at Zing Protein Bars. Can these bars be a good choice for women looking for a relatively healthy bar with a balance of protein, sugar and fat?

Zing Protein Bars are also referred to as nutrition bars and more recently labeled, vitality bars. Zing Bars are soy free and most are gluten free. Some are vegan and Non-GMO. However, some do use whey as a protein source.

If you like chocolate, you will probably enjoy the chocolate covered flavors. Personally, I love the inside of these, but I do not like the chocolate coating. I love dark chocolate, but to me the chocolate tastes a bit waxy and not chocolatey enough. However, most people love the chocolate covered ones.  I do like the mocha the best of the chocolate ones. I much prefer the cookie and nuts and fruit flavors, however.

  1. Hi Sandra,
I love that you posted nutritional value for some of the Zing Protein Bars. I always like to check these values as I find many of the so called healthy bars are full of sugar, salt and/or fat. These three ingredients add lots of calories very often and they are also very unhealthy when consumed in large amounts.

    1. Hi Simona,
Thanks for checking out my article: Zing Protein Bars–Review For Women and leaving a comment. Yes, there are so many bars on the market you really have to read labels to see what they actually are. I have reviewed several other protein bars and will be reviewing more. Stop back and see if any of them are a good choice for what you are looking for.

  2. Hi Sandra,
I have tried a few protein bars over the years but most left me unimpressed. Is it just the nature of the high protein that flavours them or some really actually nice tasting?

    1. Hi Megan
Yes, very high protein bars often do not taste good and also have a weird texture. Zing Protein Bars are not labeled as true protein bars because they don’t have the 18+ grams of protein and 4 or less grams of sugar that is typical in these bars. Many people find these bars do taste good. There are 3 types of Zing Bars. I suggest trying each type to see what you prefer.
